Some Thoughts on Creating

September 26, 2024

Progress requires a problem-solving process:

  • Identify the problem

  • Find the solution

However, I missed one crucial element: having a clear goal.

Up until now, I’ve been unconsciously treating technique as my main objective.

Since I’ve already gained the basics of drawing, making rapid improvements, like before, has become incredibly difficult.

This led me to a plateau, where I kept imitating other artists' styles. But the more I drew, the worse my work seemed to get, and eventually, I lost my passion.

I realized that these imitation practices lacked a process of self-correction. Instead of just improving technique, I want to achieve something more meaningful.

Now, I’ve adjusted my goal to focus on creating interesting artwork.

I can’t wait to share this realization.

For the first time, after identifying this goal, I genuinely feel like I'm creating.

P.S.: Here's the draft of an illustration: A flower elf is taking a pizza out of the oven, while a little cat tries to sneak a bite.
